Staff Reporter : Kolkata, 24th. April, 2024. Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM), Kolkata, launched the Center of Excellence for Quantum Computing, marking a significant step in technological innovation. With a 10-crore investment, IEM aimed to empower students and researchers and pave the way for a quantum computing-driven future.
Quantum computing has the potential to exceed the capabilities of traditional computing. With speeds up to 100 million times faster, tasks that would take 10,000 years on conventional systems now require just 200 seconds, highlighting quantum computing’s immense potential.
The Centre focuses on various quantum computing domains and has joined the IBM Quantum Network to expedite research.Dr. Satyajit Chakrabarti, Director, IEM and UEM, shared their plans to train 2000 students annually at the Quantum Computing Laboratory and support over 200 researchers from West Bengal with the help of the Quantum Computing Centre of Excellence.
