Boishakhi Mela 1430 -Grand Celebration of Poila Boishak!….

Newsstardom : kolkata, 15th April 2023. As the Bengali New Year 1430 dawns upon us, one must get ready to indulge in a myriad of festivities and cultural extravaganzas at the Boishakhi Mela. The first day of the mela on 15th April saw an array of events, starting with a vibrant dance and music performance by Bornaadhyay Prabhatferi at Clock Tower & Happy Street. The event was inaugurated by the Honorable Minister Shri Sujit Basu, Department of Fire and Emergency, Mr. Debashis Sen, Chairman, NKDA, Tapas Chatterjee, MLA Rajarhat Newtown along with Urmila Sen, Associate Professor and President of New own Book Fair.
The day is marked with traditional food, music, dance, and a range of cultural programs, all reflecting the rich heritage of the Bengali culture. “Poila Boishak is not just a celebration, it is an expression of our cultural identity and values, it is a day of joy and hope, where we celebrate the arrival of spring and new beginnings. It is also an occasion to renew our bonds with family, friends, and the community.”
The festivities commenced with the ‘Chhata Alankaran Pratiyogita’ at 8.30a.m, followed by an array of other activities throughout the day, like welcome song at 5p.m, including the food festival ‘Ahare Bahaare’ organized by Hangla Hensel, Alpona Pratiyogita, several cultural events, also greetings to Padmashree Niranjan Goshwami and Shri Gautam Haldar.
In the evening many talented artists will perform including a Loknrittya by different groups, honoring the 2022 New Town’s editorial team members for arranging the community event, and an exceptional performance by Riddhi Bandopadhyay, the Panchakabi’s Kanya.
On the second day, 16th April, celebrations are expected to continue with even more exciting activities such as Nakshi Kantha Pradarshana, Baul Gaan, Putul Nach, Sora Ankon Pratiyogita, and Dohar’s musical performance.


Jaitri NGO’s contribution to women empowerment in society is acknowledged, and Padmashree Pritikana Goshwami’s remarkable achievements are honored. Apart from these activities, the event has a host of competitions, and prizes for all. The Boishakhi Mela is indeed a celebration of rich cultural, tradition, and happiness that brings us all together.
Urmila Sen, Associate Professor and President of New own Book Fair said, “The essence of celebration is the love that we share with each other. We should celebrate Poila Boishak by spreading love, happiness, and harmony among ourselves and our fellow beings. I wish everyone a very happy and prosperous new year, Shubho Nabobarsho!.”
