The 11th Convocation of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Kolkata was held on 28th july Friday. Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He mentioned in his convocation address, that the pharmaceutical sector in India has played a pivotal role in ensuring access and affordability of good-quality drugs across the country. He motivated the students with his words of wisdom, “Medicine takes care of the body and education takes care of the mind.” Advised to inculcate knowledge, train and control the mind in order to overcome obstacles in their upcoming future. He congratulated the degree recipients and those who built this institute over the years.
75 Masters and 9 PhD degrees; 12 Gold Medals and 4 Best Thesis awards were awarded to the students by the Hon’ble Governor during this convocation.
The Hon’ble Governor inaugurated the Center for Marine Therapeutics at NIPER Kolkata and presented a “Scroll of Honor” to Prof V. Ravichandiran, Director, NIPER Kolkata.
The Guest of Honor, Dr. D. Srinivas Reddy, Director, CSIR-IICT, Hyderabad advised the students to become job creators instead of job-seekers. He also emphasized to utilize the various schemes and initiatives introduced by Govt. of India to make the country as self- reliant in the pharmaceutical sector.
Prof P. Balaram, Chairman, of the Board of Governors, congratulated and appreciated all the degree recipients, and concluded with a few words of wisdom for their future. “Failures will be more than success, and to overcome it, one must have resilience and persistence.”
Prof V Ravichandiran, Director, NIPER Kolkata has welcomed the dignitaries and presented the Institute Academic report highlighting the achievements of the institute; awards received by students and faculties during the academic year. He also mentioned the establishment of “Centre for Marine Therapeutics” and “Rare Disease Therapeutics” which aims to provide affordable medicines to the society. He further informed that the Institute will establish Centre of Excellence in Flow Reactor and Continuous Manufacturing with the funding support of Rs.100 Cr. from Department of Pharmaceuticals, Govt. of India.
He congratulated all the graduating students and awardees. Prof. Subramanian Natesan, Professor & Registrar In-charge has proposed Vote of Thanks to the dignitaries and the gathering of the convocation.
