Staff Reporter : Kolkata, 14th.January, 2024 – St. Joan’s Primary School, nestled in Salt Lake, Kolkata, accomplished a splendid feat as it successfully hosted its Annual Sports Day on Saturday, 13th January 2024, at GD Park, Salt Lake. The event marked a harmonious convergence of students, dedicated staff, esteemed guests, and the media for a day brimming with spirited athletic competitions and lively cultural performances.
The opening ceremony dazzled with the enchanting performance, “Swagatham Krishna,” presented by the talented students of Classes IV & V, setting a joyous tone for the day’s festivities.
Mrs. Debjani Ghosh, the Principal of St. Joan’s Primary School, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “This Annual Sports Day is not just about athletic competitions; it is a celebration of our commitment to nurturing holistic development in our students. His Excellency Hon’ble Mr. Zha Liyou, the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kolkata, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, symbolizing the school’s dedication to embracing global cultures and languages. Mr. Zha Liyou commended the school’s efforts, saying, “I am honored to be part of this celebration. St. Joan’s Primary School’s commitment to cultural diversity is truly commendable, and events like these foster international understanding and cooperation.”
Hon’ble Mr. Ranjan Poddar (Borough Chairman Br-V) and Hon’ble Mrs. Tulsi Sinha Roy (MMIC, Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation) were present as Guests of Honour, underscoring the collaborative efforts between the school and local government.
Distinguished personalities including Grand Master Pradipta Kumar Roy, Taekwondo Champion & Coach, Mr. P.A. John Stephen, Acting Principal of La Martiniere for Boys, Kolkata, and Mr. Neville McNamara, Ex-Principal of St. Joseph’s School, Bowbazar, added prestige to the occasion.
The event witnessed the gracious presence of Reverend Sisters of Lavinia House, Mr. Ravi Lochan Singh, Managing Director of Global Reach, and Mr. Deepak Jalan, Managing Director of Linc Ltd, all of whom lauded the school’s efforts in organizing a vibrant and inclusive Sports Day.
