Staff Reporter : Kolkata, 10th May 2025. Many individuals suffer from persistent pain, stiffness, and limited mobility, making everyday tasks like walking, bending, or even sitting both uncomfortable and exhausting. These challenges often stem from severe hip conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteonecrosis, or tumors in the hip joint. Such conditions can significantly impact quality of life, affecting every movement and taking away the simple joys of daily living.
To address these issues, doctors commonly recommend total hip replacement, often supported by medication during recovery. However, traditional hip replacement surgeries involve invasive techniques that require cutting through major muscles,
which can result in longer recovery times, increased postoperative pain, and a higher risk of joint dislocation.
Saturday, advancements in surgical methods offer renewed hope. Among them, the Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) has emerged as a game-changer for Total Hip Replacement. It’s a smart, muscle-friendly method in hip replacement surgery. Instead of a complex approach, the hip joint is reached from the front, without cutting through any muscles. Dr. Narayan Mitra, Deputy General Manager of Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, also graced the event with his presence.
With the Direct Anterior Approach, a better way to fix hip pain has been found. It’s not just a surgery—it’s a faster, smoother comeback to life.
DIRECT ANTERIOR APPROACH-
* Muscles are preserved
* Faster recovery, early mobility
* Reduced – Thanks to minimal disruption
* Lower – thanks to stable joint
* Smaller, less noticeable scar
* Better implant positioning with imaging
