Manipal Hospitals join hands with specially abled & acid-attack survivors to spread awareness on First Aid World Emergency Day….

Staff Reporter : Kolkata, 27th May’2025: Manipal Hospitals, the largest hospital chain in Eastern India has taken significant step to build a healthier and more prepared society through a (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) CPR training programme at every corner of Kolkata marking a first-of-its-kind initiative on World Emergency Day, by training specially abled individuals, and acid attack survivors. The city-wide movement by Manipal Hospitals which included a comprehensive CPR awareness and training programme across Kolkata, from jogger’s parks and railway stations to corporate offices and IT parks to Rapido riders, followed by a 20-ambulance rally from Mukundapur via Dhakuria, Broadway & Saltlake. The day long events were aimed to create a healthier, more emergency-ready society. Driven by the belief that every individual, regardless of their background or ability, should be equipped to respond in a crisis, the skills that over 1500 people across the City of Joy imbibed today, is a step forward to transform them into real life CPR Heroes.
Continuing its mission of imparting life-saving hands-on training, Manipal Hospitals in Bengaluru has already earned a place in the Guinness World Records for its exemplary work in CPR training and emergency preparedness. Today’s line up of events started from jogger’s park at 6:00 AM in the morning and ended at 6:30 PM in the corporate offices. Today, the CPR training sessions were led by Dr. Indranil Das, Head of Emergency at Medica Superspecialty Hospital (A unit of Manipal Hospital Group), Dr. Sujoy Das Thakur, Consultant & In-Charge – Emergency Medicine, Manipal Hospital, Mukundapur and Dr. Kishan Goel, Consultant and Head of the Emergency, Manipal Hospital – Broadway.
Dr. Indranil Das, Head of Emergency, Medica Superspecialty Hospital (a unit of Manipal Hospitals Group), stated that, “Emergencies can strike anywhere, at home, in office, on the road, or during a morning jog. That is why we are stepping out of the hospital and going into public spaces, such as parks, offices and community areas, to make as many individuals as possible, CPR Heroes. Places such as Santoshpur Park, Urban Sabujayon, Central Park, Axis Mall and Rabindra Sarovar, helped us to ensure that life-saving knowledge becomes as common as a morning walk. When basic emergency response becomes part of public awareness, we strengthen the chain of survival across the city.”
During the event, Dr. Sujoy Das Thakur, Consultant & In-Charge – Emergency Medicine, Manipal Hospital – Mukundapur, opined that, “Protecting life is not only the responsibility of a doctor, but also a social obligation. By training Rapido riders, specially abled individuals from NGOs and acid-attack survivors from several districts in CPR & Firstv Aid, we are equipping everyday heroes to act in emergencies. Our ambulance rally is another one powerful symbol of our commitment towards preventive care. The training that spanned across the key locations of the city will raise the necessary awareness and remind everyone that every second counts.”
While talking about the initiative, Dr. Kishan Goel, Consultant and Head of the Emergency, Manipal Hospital – Broadway, shared, “An emergency that warrants the attention of bystanders cannot rely solely on awareness; initial care must not only have the will to help but also the readiness to assist. By expanding CPR training sessions across IT hubs like DLF, public spaces like South City Mall, and media houses, we are creating a ripple effect of life-saving knowledge. At Manipal Hospital, we believe that empowering diverse groups—from professionals to journalists can turn bystanders into first responders.”
Dr. Paramita Kanjilal, Consultant Emergency & Family Medicine, Manipal Hospital – Salt lake shared, “Manipal stands firmly comitted to spreading awareness about First Aid and CPR so that people can lend a helping hand in critical times. We shall be conducting such mass awareness initiatives round the year so that the community at large gets benefited.”
