How did you feel when you were declared as the winner of Amayra Miss India 2022?
Very elated and happy. To be very honest, in my career of pageantry and modeling, I have faced many challenges primarily because of my height. In a lot of pageants, I am not even allowed to audition. So this win is a great win not just to me but for all those girls who don’t feel beautiful the way they are. I feel that one’s outer beauty should not matter. What should really matter is your thoughts and opinion, what you do and how beautiful you are from within. If you can attract people around you even when the whole world turns blind, you are beautiful!!
What does being Miss India mean to you?
Being Miss India is a huge honor and a responsibility. Everybody wants to be the Sun to brighten up someone’s life but I always wanted to be the Moon to shine on someone’s darkest hour. I hope to be that positive light and inspire people around me as a queen. I aim to make our world a better place to live in.
What do you plan to do next?
Right now, I have some responsibilities as Miss India and I hope to fulfill it with utmost sincerity. At the same time I have responsibilities as an Indian, and I hope to make my country proud as its representative in research. In the near future, my dream is to represent my country and win Miss World, so that I can meet and speak to people internationally and work on issues that require our immediate concern. In future, I want to belong to the world! I hope to be an international icon and show the world the wit, beauty, intelligence and love India beholds.
Are you interested in being part of films?
Off course! I am creatively very inclined! I am also a trained Kathak dancer and I love expressing myself on stage or in front of the camera. I am always ready for quality work anytime, any day. Being a part of a movie specially with an unique storyline is my dream. Movies have a great influence in our society and I wish to utilize this medium responsibly. I am waiting for my big break and if all goes well, you will see me in big screen soon!
Who is your role model?
Certainly my Mom. She is amazing. But if there is one person I look up to apart from my mom, he is none other than Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam; a legend who is an epitome of intellect, wisdom and simplicity. A People’s President, who left indelible marks on several fields ranging from science to politics. He has inspired me to aim for the sky but still remain grounded to the roots as an upcoming scientist, as a spokesperson and as an individual. Even though he is unparalleled, I hope I can do something great just like him in the field of research and make my country proud.
What is your Monday motivation?
Wake up! The world needs you!
Who are you most thankful for this achievement?
Definitely my family. It’s really important to have your parent’s blessing on your head and their unconditional support if you want to do something in the creative sphere. And I am glad to have people in my life who listen to me and gives me the freedom to chase my dreams.
My mom, Mrs. Joyti Sarkar is a power woman! She sacrificed her entire career just to look after me and my little sister, and you can see how amazingly she did her job. Even when she is under a lot of stress, even when life throws her a lot of lemons, even when she is exhausted both mentally and physically, even then nothing will stop her in finding the strength and do what it needs to be done for her kids and her family. She is my idol.
My dad, Mr. Subrata Sarkar is my super hero! He taught me what an individual with hard work, dignity and discipline exemplify. There was a time when we were not very financially stable. He still made sure to work overtime, even on Sundays, use his entire savings, so that me and my little sister can have healthy food and nothing stops us from getting quality education.
And finally my little sister, Miss Chandrima Sarkar; the most caring and understanding woman I have ever met. Even though she is younger to me, she has always looked after me and have supported me throughout every challenge in my life. I am blessed to have such a beautiful family! We four make a power team!
What is your message to the world?
When people doubt you or tell you that you cannot do something, just believe in yourself, work hard and move far towards your dreams so that you can no longer hear from them.
