News stardom : Kolkata, 25th. May 2022. : The long-awaited vaccination of the 12 to 17 years age group against Covid started at Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital today with Covovax shots being administered within hours of the government issuing the relevant guidelines.
Parents can book slots for their children on CoWIN or simply walk-in to the Woodlands Vaccination Centre on 8C, Alipore Road (about 200m from Woodlands Hospital) between 10am to 2pm on all days including weekends and holidays. Covovax has been manufactured by Serum Institute of India, who are also the makers of Covishield. The vaccine is priced at Rs 385 per dose and the second dose can be given after 21 days.
Ms Sayani Saha from Behala said she had been waiting for the vaccine for her son Aniruddha, a student of MP Birla foundation Higher Secondary School. “I had made an enquiry about Covovax a week back. Today morning as soon as the hospital called to inform me the vaccination had started, I brought my son for the jab as summer vacation is on and he did not have school,” said Ms Saha.
Parents lauded the quick turn around time and the sprawling rooms at the Woodlands Vaccination Centre that made for a soothing experience for the children getting the shot.
“Children and the aged are more vulnerable to all diseases, including respiratory ailments. Vaccines are our best weapon to strengthen the immune system and it is advisable for all kids in the eligible age bracket to take the Covid vaccine,” said Dr Rupali Basu, Managing Director & CEO, Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital.
Woodlands has already administered vaccines to 1.5 lakh beneficiaries having always been on the forefront of the vaccination drive. The hospital has also conducted Work Place CVCs (WPCVC) with 130 corporates and will now be organising vaccination in schools.
