News stardom : Kolkata, 24th August 2025: Following its annual tradition, the Alumni Association of Acharyya Prafulla Chandra Ray Polytechnic, Jadavpur, Kolkata along with the Teachers, Staff members and Students, organized the celebration of the 164th Birth Anniversary and Memorial Lecture of eminent Bengali Scientist, Industrialist and Visionary Acharyya Prafulla Chandra Ray, after whom the Institution has been named. The event included paying homage by garlanding the statue of APC Ray at the campus on his birthday i.e. 2nd August, followed by planting around 15 saplings around the campus in continuation of our commitment towards environmental sustainability.
On 22nd August 2025, an academic symposium was organized on the occasion, titled “Retrospection on the Life and Work of Acharyya Prafulla Chandra Ray”. Prof. Tanmaya Pathak, Former Professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry, IIT Kharagpur, was the Chief Guest at the occasion, and he delivered the “APC Ray Memorial Lecture 2025”. He spoke about the rich heritage and tradition of Science in Bengal which was pioneered by Acharyya Prafulla Chandra Ray.
President of the Alumni Association, Sh. Partha Pratim Sarkar and Principal-in-Charge of APC Ray Polytechnic, Sh. Mrinmay Kanjilal, jointly inaugurated the symposium and highlighted the ethos and principles of this great 75-year-old Engineering Institution and how it is always guided by the rich values of APC Ray. They spoke about the symposium and similar curricular and extracurricular activities that the Alumni Association and the Institution regularly engages in, which ensures overall development of students.
Following the inaugural session, a panel discussion was organized on the topic “Impact of AI on Engineering Careers”. Eminent alumni members and advisors of the Association, Sh. Asit Talukdar, Founder of Soil and Enviro Industries and Shri. Jayanta Basu, Founder- Techo Enterprise, were the expert panelists; joined by senior Professors of the Institute, Sh. Kuntal Mitra, HOD- Electrical Department and Sh. Prosenjit Roy, Lecturer of Computer Science and Technology. They enlightened the students on how to prepare for their upcoming careers, by upskilling themselves in diverse fields, to become multi-dimensional and innovative; and also take up entrepreneurial challenges without fear. Convener of the event Sh. Debajyoti Majumder, Chief of Student Awareness- IMS Learning Resources Pvt. Ltd,, who is also alumnus and Governing Body Member of the Association, moderated the session.
Sh. Bibhas Jana, Secretary of the Association announced the names of the toppers of the Institution, from all the six disciplines of engineering for the year 2024, who were awarded the APC Ray Memorial Medal and Certificate; sponsored by veteran alumnus Sh. Shyamalendu Mitra. Shri. Ashutosh Chakraborty, Former Principal of the college & Chief Patron of the Alumni Association, Shri. Kanchan Chakraborty, Chief Advisor, Shri. Satyabrata Dasgupta, Senior Advisor, were also present. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from many alumni members who are well established in their respective fields, industry representatives, teachers, staff members and current students. Smt. Mausumi Paul, alumnus and Governing Body Member and Founder- Career Guidance Academy was the MC, who conducted the entire event with grace. Sh. Prasun Kanti Bhattacharya-Vice President of the Association, delivered the Vote of Thanks.
