Recognised as “The Robotic Benchmark”, Manipal Hospitals East, through Robotic Summit 2026, reinforced its position as East India’s largest robotic hospital network and robotic surgical programme, highlighting how advanced robotic-assisted technology is transforming patient care and surgical outcomes across multiple specialities. With over 3000 robotic surgeries successfully performed, a team of more than 30 expert robotic surgeons, expertise across 10+ surgical specialities, and five advanced robotic systems across its Kolkata hospitals, the healthcare network showcased how robotic-assisted procedures are enabling enhanced precision, minimally invasive treatment, faster recovery, reduced post-operative complications, and improved patient outcomes. The summit also witnessed the launch of dedicated robotic doctor badges, recognising the expertise and contribution of robotic surgery specialists across multiple disciplines at Manipal Hospitals East. Further strengthening its focus on awareness, education, and collaborative learning in advanced healthcare, the hospital group also announced a dedicated Robotic Workshop scheduled for June 2026. The workshop will bring together doctors, corporate representatives, and members of the media to provide deeper insights into robotic-assisted surgical technology, its clinical benefits, evolving applications across specialties, and its growing role in shaping the future of precision-driven healthcare.

Speaking as the Chief Guest at Robotic Summit 2026, Dr. Sushmita Mitra, Full Professor (HAG) and a former head of the Machine Intelligence Unit at Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata said, “The future of healthcare will increasingly be shaped by the seamless integration of artificial intelligence, machine learning, medical imaging, and robotic-assisted technologies. Today, robotics is not only enhancing surgical precision and clinical decision-making but is also helping create safer, minimally invasive, and more patient-centric healthcare systems. As advancements in data science and intelligent technologies continue to evolve, we are witnessing a transformational shift in how complex diseases are diagnosed, monitored, and treated. Platforms such as Robotic Summit 2026 play an important role in encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration between clinicians, researchers, technologists, and healthcare institutions, ultimately accelerating innovation and improving patient outcomes. It is encouraging to see institutions like Manipal Hospitals East driving the adoption of advanced technology-led healthcare and building greater awareness around the future potential of robotic and AI-enabled medicine in India.”

Speaking on robotic advancements in cardiac surgery, Dr Kunal Sarkar, Director – Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery, Manipal Hospital, Mukundapur Cluster said, “Robotic cardiac surgery is redefining the future of minimally invasive heart care by combining surgical expertise with cutting-edge precision technology. Procedures that once required large incisions and prolonged recovery periods can now be performed through smaller access points with greater accuracy, minimal trauma, reduced pain, and significantly faster recovery. Robotic systems provide enhanced visualisation and dexterity,

allowing surgeons to perform delicate cardiac procedures with remarkable precision. At Manipal Hospitals East, we are focused on building one of the most advanced robotic cardiac surgery programmes in the country while making world-class heart care more accessible to patients across Eastern and Northeastern India.”

Speaking about the growing adoption of robotic-assisted oncology procedures, Dr Sourav Datta, Director – Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Care, Manipal Hospitals – Mukundapur, Salt Lake & Siliguri Clusters said, “Cancer treatment today is rapidly evolving with robotic-assisted technology enabling surgeons to perform highly complex oncological procedures with far greater precision and control. At Manipal Hospitals East, robotic oncology has significantly improved surgical accuracy, especially in difficult-to-access tumours, while reducing blood loss, post-operative pain, risk of infection, and recovery time for patients. Over the last few years, we have witnessed a growing preference for minimally invasive robotic cancer surgeries across gastrointestinal, thoracic, gynaecological, and urological oncology cases. With advanced robotic systems and multidisciplinary expertise, we are committed to delivering safer surgeries, quicker recovery, and better long-term outcomes for cancer patients across Eastern India.”

Highlighting the impact of robotics in orthopaedics, Dr Vikash Kapoor, Cluster Director – Orthopaedics, Manipal Hospitals Mukundapur Cluster, said, “Robotic-assisted orthopaedic surgery has brought a revolutionary shift in joint replacement and musculoskeletal care by enabling highly personalised and precise surgical planning. The robotic platform allows surgeons to achieve exceptional implant positioning and alignment, which directly contributes to better functional outcomes, reduced post-operative pain, faster rehabilitation, and longer implant longevity. Within a span of just two years, we have successfully performed more than 1500 robotic knee replacement surgeries at Manipal Hospitals EM Bypass, reflecting the growing trust patients have placed in robotic-assisted orthopaedic care. Today, patients undergoing robotic knee and hip replacement surgeries are experiencing shorter hospital stays, faster recovery, and quicker return to mobility compared to conventional surgical techniques. As the adoption of robotics continues to grow, we believe technology-driven orthopaedic care will play a critical role in improving quality of life for patients suffering from chronic joint disorders.”

As robotic-assisted healthcare continues to evolve, Manipal Hospitals East remains focused on pioneering next-generation surgical excellence and expanding access to world-class technology-driven care across Eastern India.
