News Stardom : Kolkata, 3rd. November 2022. A “Stakeholders Conference on Safety of Journalists” was organised by National Media Council on the occasion of International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists at Jai Hind Auditorium.

 

The International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists is an UN-recognized day observed annually on 2nd November. The day draws attention to the low global conviction rate for violent crimes against journalists and media workers, estimated at only one in every ten cases.

Several distinguished guests were present at the occasion including Sujoy Chanda, Former Joint Commissioner of Police, Kolkata Police, Sri Nazrul Islam, Councillor and CIC, Rajpur Sonarpur Municipality,

Sri Partha Mukhopadhyay, Chief Editor of Siti Cable and Md Aammar Zaki, Advocate, Calcutta High Court. The guest congratulated and applauded the team of National Media Council for taking up the task for the safety and welfare of the working journalists morefully for the journalists from digital media.

Several senior journalists including TAPAN KUMAR DE, PARTHA MUKHOPADHAY, GOPAL DEBNATH, BISWAJIT DAS, MD FIROZ ALAM, SUJIT CHATTOPADHYA, SUBROTO BHOWMICK, NOORUL KALAM, HAIDER ALI, ALAMGIR ALAM, MD.SHAMIM, SHAMIM HUSSAIN were recognised for their long service in the field of journalism.

The Board of Trustees of the Council said that very soon they are going to come up with a space for journalists for recreation activities,

they are also going to set up a media institution and create a welfare fund for the financially weak journalist.
