6th Technology Conference for Growth of Plastic Industry Celebrates Success and Aims for a Self-Reliant Plastic Manufacturing Future…..

August, 2023 – The 6th Technology Conference for Growth of Plastic Industry, hosted by the All India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association (AIPMA), concluded successfully at Hotel The Park in Kolkata on Thursday, August 31st. The conference focused on import substitution of plastic goods and its role in advancing the Atmnirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) initiative, fostering a self-sufficient domestic plastic manufacturing industry.

Esteemed speakers including Mr. Mayur D. Shah, President of AIPMA, and Mr. Arvind Mehta, Chairman of AIPMA’s Governing Council, shared insights into the potential of import substitution to boost the domestic plastic manufacturing industry and reduce India’s dependence on imports. Mr. Shah highlighted the substantial business opportunity, aiming to bring an additional Rs. 37,500 crores to India through import substitution.The event showcased a comprehensive study conducted by AIPMA, revealing the importation of plastic goods worth ₹37,500 crore in the fiscal year 2021-22, with China contributing 48% of the imports. AIPMA identified 553 plastic products for import substitution, a move anticipated to generate significant demand for raw materials, plastics processing machinery, and tools, consequently creating around 5,00,000 new jobs.

Supported by various government departments, including the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, the conference emphasized the importance of manufacturing “Make in India – Make for the World” plastic products. With a track record of successful conferences held in prominent Indian cities, this 6th conference brought together over 550 industry professionals, government officials, researchers, entrepreneurs, and policymakers.

The Guest of Honor, Mr. Manish Chadha, Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, addressed the conference on the role of policy in fostering the growth of the Plastic Industry. The conference also highlighted the integral role of technology and innovation in the plastic processing industry, providing a platform for direct dialogue between manufacturers and importers.

The conference further exhibited samples of imported plastic products, offering insights and opportunities for local manufacturers to tap into the potential for import substitution. Attendees were exposed to the latest technologies and innovations, promoting the accelerated development of import substitution plastic products.

With a clear focus on promoting a self-reliant plastic manufacturing ecosystem, the 6th Technology Conference for Growth of Plastic Industry marked another milestone in the journey towards a thriving and innovative domestic plastic industry, aligned with the vision of Atmnirbhar Bharat.
