Dakshini Prayash, an organization that began its journey under a tree 32 years ago with a mission to provide free education and healthcare to the economically weakest, celebrated its 32nd Foundation Day at the Satyajit Ray Auditorium, ICCR. The event was marked by a vibrant dance drama performed by the students, highlighting the importance of the East Kolkata Wetlands.
Over the past three decades, Dakshini Prayash has evolved into a thriving institution offering free holistic quality education to nearly 400 children. With the dedicated efforts of 37 teachers and 15 non-teaching staff, the organization not only focuses on academic excellence but also provides a unique healthcare program and self-employment opportunities to the families of the children. The families produce quality products that are sold globally, with the surplus income reinvested into the education and healthcare of their children and communities.
Dakshini Prayash’s commitment to environmental sustainability is reflected in its various initiatives. This year, the theme was “East Kolkata Wetlands: Ecology and Economy.” Through workshops, students have been educated on the significance of these wetlands for the city of Kolkata and the world. The dance drama presented by the students beautifully captured the essence of the wetlands and their crucial role in maintaining ecological balance.
Mrs. Anubhuti Prakash, President of Dakshini Prayash, addressed the audience, emphasizing the organization’s growth and impact on the community. Prof. Shantanu Ray, an eminent management educationist, graced the event as the Chief Guest, acknowledging the unique model of holistic community development that Dakshini Prayash represents.
The annual report of the institution was also presented, showcasing the achievements and milestones of the past year. Dakshini Prayash stands as a testament to the power of dedicated efforts and community support in driving sustainable development and holistic growth.
